They were contributing to the war effort whilst the men were away, by making khaki coloured thread for the soldier's uniforms. They were paid 35-45p per week for 60 hours work. After 6 weeks, the company conceded their demands and also awarded a 10% War Bonus. Full recognition of the union was also obtained.
