Winchester & Portsmouth Diocesan Guild — Alton & Petersfield District Quarter Peal Fortnight4th – 17th November 2024
The Alton and Petersfield District has well and truly rung the changes during our Quarter Peal Fortnight, with 29 quarter peals successfully rung across 20 different towers. We’ve tackled everything from 3-bell quarters to full 10-bell extravaganzas! The fortnight is always a chance for ringers to try something new, and this year we took that as a challenge. A whopping 20 “firsts” were achieved, including five first-ever quarter peals. It wasn’t just the newcomers making waves. We had 12 conductors calling the shots, including one brave soul making their conducting debut. A standout moment was our Youth Band, who rang a Quarter Peal of Plain Bob Minor entirely with under-18s. As District Ringing Master, I feel both incredibly proud and slightly in awe of what we’ve achieved together. Special thanks go to all the Tower Captains, Francesco Greenslade and Rachael Barber, who went above and beyond to make this fortnight such a success, and to everyone who rang or supported us.
